CULTIVATING THE FLAME

A path to deepen your faith

Motherhood is Kingdom work

Parenting is important to God. It is a ministry for parents and a legacy of faith. There are many scriptures in the Bible that talk about parenting and motherhood. Proverbs talks about parenting often. Proverbs 6:20 says “My son keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teachings.” I realize this is talking to the child, but it shows the importance in what we are doing. The Lord is telling the child to listen to what we are instructing, commanding, and teaching our children. We need to take a look at what we are teaching our children. What are we commanding? Even on our bad days are we reflecting the Father? Are we teaching our children how to deal with things Biblically? Are we commanding in a Godly manner? Is what we command and teach fruitful in God’s eyes? When I really look at scripture and take a hard look at my ways, I realize I need the Father’s help. Father, these children are your children just like I am your child. You gave me these beautiful children for a short time before they are grown. You are entrusting me in teaching Your ways not my own. So, when they are grown, they do not depart from you Father and Your ways. Help me navigate this in a world who does not live by Your ways. Help me distinguish what I have been taught, passed down and Your Word. Help me break generational teachings or cycles that do not align to Your Word. Open my eyes to Your Word and help me understand them so I can teach my children effectively.

Prayer

Lord, help us today to reflect You in our parenting. To teach our children Your ways even when it is hard, even when the world looks different than Your ways. Help us command and teach in the way You want our children to go. Thank You for each child, Lord. Bless them and give them courage to live in Your ways in a world that does not. Give us parents the courage to teach and command in a world that does not view things in the same way. Break generational cycles, teachings, and curses off my family. Open our eyes to Your ways and where we need to improve. Thank you, Lord, for our children. Thank you for entrusting us with Your children. amen
